Around the AFC East

New England Patriots

After all the saga for the New England Patriots with Deflategate and the subsequent 4 game ban for Tom Brady, at least former Patriots Quarterback Matt Cassel is keeping as professional as can be by avoiding any real comment on the situation.

Cassel who is in a starting Quarterback fight at the Buffalo Bills assumed the same role as most of the league, which is if the situation is ignored then sooner or later it will burn itself out. Cassel said “We all have a say in what balls we want and all that stuff and that’s about the extent that I’ll go into that.”

In other news Veteran Linebacker Dane Fletcher was resigned to the Patriots on a one year deal who joins up with another resigned Linebacker Brandon Spikes who both bolster the positions with Mayo and Hightower both still on the road to recovery after knee and shoulder injuries.

Also with 3 Super Bowl titles to his name The Patriots Fan Legion have voted Willie McGinest  in as the 24th Player to the Patriots Hall of Fame.

“It’s humbling to be recognised and known in my position and on the team,”  McGinest said “I’m one of the guys that the fans, writers and my peers thought I was that good of a player to be inducted.”

Congratulations Willie McGinest.

Buffalo Bills

The Bills are still trying to make everyone believe that all their Quarterbacks are in contention to be the one to win the starting job. If that is the case then Tyrod Taylor, EJ Manuel, Matt Cassel and Jeff Tuel are all on even footing and have all to prove. Although it has been suggested that Taylor may be the surprise choice after all the chips are laid on the table. Experience may win out in the end.

Coach Ryan has Cassel and Manuel working with the starters and then has Taylor and Tuel working with the backups as the Bills employ a two spot drill system.

“You just keep rotating your guys, the big thing you want is to evaluate all your players, not just the first or second team. You want everybody to have a fair chance. The cream will rise to the top and you’ll see something.” Said Ryan

In other news Defensive Tackle Marcell Dareus will be suspended for the season opener due to a violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. Dareus said
“Last year I made a mistake involving possession of a banned substance. The NFL’s discipline for this conduct is part of the drug policy, and I apologise to my family, my team mates and the entire Bills organization.”

New York Jets

The Jets have officially released Quarterback Matt Simms. Simms appeared in 4 games in 3 seasons for the Jets and even scored a touchdown pass way back in 2013. It’s hoped he finds a new home soon.

Also what seemed a sure thing, it now seems that the Quarterback job for the Jets may not go straight to Geno Smith. Coach Todd Bowles has announced that there will be a competition for the role at an upcoming training camp. Bowles said “I view it as an open competition with Geno being the starter. It’s his to lose and it’s Ryan’s to take, it’s Bryce’s to take, it’s Matt’s to take. No different than any other position. Whoever starts out first team will get the first team reps.”

Whatever happens it looks like the fire has been restarted underneath the Jets again.

Miami Dolphins

Its fair to say that the Dolphins have boosted the Wide Receiving ranks excellently during the last few months and that in turn has excited Ryan Tanehill after just the first day of organized team activities. Tanehill has thoroughly enjoyed working with DeVante Parker, Kenny Stills and
Jarvis Landry.

Tanehill said, “As far as natural pass catchers, guys that snag the ball with their hands and are athletic. I think it’s definetly the most athletic group we’ve had.”

In other news Rishard Matthews is boycotting voluntary Dolphins workouts with the plan in hoping to force a release or even a trade. After falling down the Receiver ranks he feels his development has been stalled.  He even posted a tweet that read
“It’s funny how people claim to want to do right by you. In the end it’s all just talk.”

Whatever the outcome, a change of scenery may be best for both parties.

It's never boring in the AFC East!
